I just wondered where you got the 75% cuts to the education budget figures from. If it’s true then that’s shocking, but seems rater unlikely and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere else on the internet (after only a very quick search admittedly)?
Sorry we haven’t had time to respond to you The 75% figure is derived from the impact of major cuts to govt. teaching grant on the arts and humanities. Cuts of around 40% to the higher education budget were announced in the Comprehensive Spending Review on 20 October 2010. The arts and humanities will be bearing the brunt of that, but the social sciences also. Higher tuition fees are a way of pushing the debt burden onto students, but even that won’t be nearly enough to fully fund existing courses across institutions in the UK.
