Cambridge Defend Education brought hundreds of people together at the end of last year in the spectacular occupation of the Old Schools building. We want to do this again – come to the CDE Workshop Weekender for 2 days of workshops and discussions – let’s, once again, create, discuss and resist together. The weekend will be concluded with fire-fuelled musical loveliness on Sunday evening.

‘Reimagining the climate movement: climate activism and the anti-cuts movement in East Anglia… joining the dots…’

Climate change is off the political agenda, the fossil-fuel economy is still going strong and Climate Camp – the driving force behind radical climate politics in the UK – has suspended its activities. But the current political context is changing – revolution is spreading across the Middle East, and in light of devastating cuts, thousands have begun to question for the first time the unparticipatory, unjust and unsustainable political and economic systems that are the root causes of climate change. Where does the climate movement go from here? How can we relate to the anti-cuts movement? Ought we to be thinking about a broader movement encompassing demands for environmental and social justice? What should climate activists in East Anglia be targeting? Ought we even be thinking about the climate in these times of unprecedented austerity?
Come to a day of workshops and discussions to re-think the future of climate activism in East Anglia and, more broadly, in the UK. Seasoned climate activists: come reflect upon the end of Climate Camp and lend your experience to revitalising the movement. New voices: discuss activist perspectives on climate justice and provide fresh ideas!

‘Create Resistance – What Can Art Do?’

Inviting all writers, artists, musicians and entertainers to an afternoon of workshops, discussions, and action in resistance art.
We aim both to discuss how art can politicise and be politicised, and develop practical ways for Cambridge’s artistic community to fight the cuts.
